Ron Paul for Libertarian President?

Should we all register republican so we can vote for Ron Paul in the primary?  He is a Libertarian in all but name.  He did run as a Libertarian presidential candidate several years ago.  Our goal is to free the country.  He would bring more freedom than any other candidate.  The bad news is we wouldn’t be publicizing the Libertarian party.  The good news is we would be publicizing freedom.

I wonder if you’d like to elect another deceptive politician. If he won’t stand up for his beliefs and associations, do you think he’ll stand up for yours?
Jimmy Carter may not have made all good decisions, but he never lied, never deceived–is still an honest man.

Though I am glad to see someone speak well of President Carter, I am not pleased to see that praise coupled with the trashing of Ron Paul. Ron Paul is close enough to the (admittedly few) sensible Constitutionalists in the Republican Party that he is not selling out.

It would be very good for the country for Libertarians to vote in the Republican primary and give that party a good hard pull toward sensible Constitutionalism.

(At my blog, you will find a question for each of the Presidential candidates.)

    From Paul Tiger:
I think that Ron has a good voting record where we are concerned. What does Phillies have to compare that with?

One thing that LP members who’ve been elected to office can be certain of is that if you vote hardcore libertarian all the time then two things will happen. One, you can’t get support from others on the team, because ‘compromise’ is not in your vocabulary. Two, you’ll be in office for one term.

One term might be okay, but we’ve seen how one term (whatever the term might be) isn’t long enough to make positive changes. I like to compromise if I can, because I can get others on board with my ideas quicker if they think that I care about what they are thinking and I am really listening. (Back in 2001 I got the Longmont council to axe an advisory board and turn that all over to a citizen’s group. That happened not because of my force of will, but because of the force of five people who worked together. I was the only libertarian, and it was my idea to start with, but I let other people own the idea and join the fight against govt bloat)….Govt is people. People have emotions. Govt took 70 + years to go from slim to bloat. it is not going to trim in 4 years.

So I question if Phillies were actually elected, could he be relected? Ron Paul has shown that he can be relected and make a positive impact while in office.

Now we get to this point about if Ron could get on the ballot past the primary. That has to do with the voters, not the Pubbie Party. I am perfectly willing to change to the R party for a few days to vote in their primary. Screw idealism and purity. Let’s get something real done.

Phillies will most assuredly get on the ballot, and then come in with the same number of nearly dead last votes as every other LP candidate before him. A good showing does not change anything.

How to Get Ron Paul Elected

In Colorado the republicans use a caucus system. If you are a registered republican you can meet with your precinct captain on February 5th and help decide which candidate to support. The steps are as follows:
    1) register as a republican by Dec 5th
    2) find your precinct# at: (http://ronpaulcolorado.org/wordpress/getting-involved/precinctcounty-mapscontacts/)
    3) call the county GOP to find out who is the precinct captain (if there isn’t one, volunteer)
    4) call the precinct captain to find out where the Feb 5th caucus will be held
    5) vote for Ron Paul at the caucus
