Letter to Shane Cory

“Be reasonable. Do it my way.”

The current self-centered cadre of candidates for national public office sponsored by our Party clearly are not viable. Indeed, the Party has failed to capture a popular incentive for progressive change, nor has it sold the electorate on the need for that change.  The emphases we hawk are shouts against the wind, heard only by those who are already critical thinkers.

And “There’s the rub!” Libertarians need a new force for progress, an educated base of leadership. The resources we waste must be better directed if we’re ever to succeed in the chaotic arena of politics. ‘Might makes right,” is the key, and (obviously) the mighty resource is the number of voters gathered to establish new rules for government of our society.

The basic mantra of leadership is “Follow Me.” Any fool can stand up and shout that … as in “Be reasonable. Do it my way.” But leaders are made, not born. We must educate
the masses to be leaders, to understand the processes of government at every level before they commit to the same old conflicts.

Our current Party system does not emphasize (with money) adequate training for those who must suffer the consequences of their poor leadership.  To become true advocates of libertarianism, we must develop aggressive youthful leaders, carefully guided in understanding that Freedom is worth having—and how to have it within a stable culture.

The secret used by the major U.S. political parties is that power is developed in the cradle. Our task is to refine political understanding at the cusp of maturity.

“Lead by example” is an instruction given every successful administrator.  However, without adequate data for decision making, the examples are probably going to be the same old stuff generated by family, tribe, and cultural imperatives.  It’s a problem in every large group of individuals, every county, every nation. We can do better.

In my opinion—and all statements are a matter of opinion—the best way to lead by example is to train the next generation of political leaders with adequate data, in a system that allows individual development of the individual to progress “outside the box,” with access to data undefined by Mammon.

(The) New Liberty Foundation, and its nominal subsidiary New Liberty Institute is being formed to do that.  Officially established in Colorado on 4 July 2007, it is intended an experiment in progress for political freedom from those who would be kings.

Your interest and assistance in this endeavor will be appreciated.
